Oct 29, 2024

Monolytics tracking code setup in Google Tag Manager

Our tracking code is lightweight and will not slow down your site. You can add it directly before the closing </body> tag on every page, or install it with Google Tag Manager. This guide covers the GTM path because it is the fastest way to get Monolytics running.

Create your workspace

  1. Register in Monolytics. Open the sign-up flow and create your workspace.
  2. Add your website. After registration, Monolytics will ask for the site you want to analyze. Enter the website URL and continue.
  3. Open the installation step. In the dashboard, click Install Tracking Code and copy the script generated by the assistant.

Install the script in Google Tag Manager

  1. Open Google Tag Manager and go to Tags.
  2. Click New and select Custom HTML as the tag type.
  3. Paste the Monolytics tracking code you copied from the dashboard.
  4. Add the All Pages trigger so the code loads on every page.
  5. Name the tag, for example HTML Monolytics.
  6. Click Save, then Submit, create a version such as Add Monolytics, and publish it.

Verify the installation

  1. Return to Monolytics and click Verify Installation.
  2. Wait a few minutes for the first page views to reach our servers.
  3. Once verification succeeds, the site is ready for recordings, surveys, and event tracking.

That's all.
